The mosquitoes aren’t too bad in Renacimiento compared to other volunteers’ sites. Nevertheless, it is wise to put on bug spray at dusk. Fortunately, our PC medical office provides us with ‘Off’ bug spray for really buggy times. But what if you want to use something lighter for your sensitive areas (butt cheek bug bites)? Online, there are tons of recipes and how-to guides for making homemade insect repellent. I found one that included ingredients I already had in my campo house: rubbing alcohol, essential oil (I use peppermint), and water. Mix into a spray bottle and shake before each use. You can definitely find other recipes that do not use rubbing alcohol, and are better for those with sensitive skin. Since I already had these ingredients, I opted for this one. Tell me how you deal with mosquitoes!
