During PML last May 2016, my counterpart Elia and I put our energy towards a trash management initiative in the community. While learning about money management, leadership skills, agency letters and more, our focus was on how to improve the current trash situation in Renacimiento. One way was creating a “sticky” slogan that would penetrate the minds of community members. Elia and I created a song and dance to “Limpiar y Lograr”. This essentially means that when you clean [the trash in the community] you are reaching a communal goal [of improved environmental health]. This could be accomplished by placing trash in a trash bin or incinerator. Upon returning to site from PML, the children eagerly helped us paint small signs with the slogan and nail them up around the community trails. There was a positive response and the U.S. Ambassador really liked them during his visit. What are some creative ideas you have pursued to improve the trash situation in your village?
